Session Description:

Vaccinations on the rise, lifting of mask mandates, industry capacity restrictions lifted have spurred optimism for the business events industry. How does all of this impact the great comeback of meetings and events?

Please join NYPCMA for a thought-provoking Executive Forum on June 25th from 12:30 – 1:30 pm ET. The esteemed panel of executives will discuss the “comeback” in terms of purposeful and innovative events for associations, corporations, and their partners. Learn strategies and insights into the future of business events.

Panelists:

Jami Stapelmann, Executive Director Global Travel, Estee Lauder Companies

Jami Stapelmann brings knowledge and experience in strategic planning, project management and innovation concentrated in the travel/hospitality sector.  Ms. Stapelmann began her career as a buyer for Macy’s department stores and has held various management and leadership positions.  Her current role at Estee Lauder Companies, is Executive Director Global Travel and Meeting Services. She was recently named one of the Top 25 Influencers in the Meetings Industry by Successful Meetings and was selected as one of the Top 25 Women in the Meetings Industry by Meetings and Conventions Magazine, October, 2017. Jami holds a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin and GLP designation from the Wharton School.

Mark White, Senior Vice President of Sales and Services, Visit Salt Lake

Mark White is Visit Salt Lake’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Services. In that role, he oversees a team of 22 people in four offices who attract, and provide services to meetings, athletic events and conventions. Under Mark’s leadership, Visit Salt Lake’s bookings have increased on average 6% year over year since 2003. Despite the COVID pandemic, they booked over 700,000 hotel room nights to be consumed in future years, which was organization’s fourth best booking year. 

Prior to joining Visit Salt Lake 28 years ago, Mark worked in the banking and finance industry. He holds an MBA, and Destination International’s highest credential; the Certified Destination Management Executive. Mark has served on the Children’s Museum, Utah Ski Association, , Utah Rivers Council, American Whitewater, and Cottonwood Canyons Foundation boards. 

When not brining group business to Salt Lake, he enjoys skiing, cycling, mountain biking, whitewater kayaking, and playing music. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Elena Gerstmann, Ph.D, FASAE, CAE, Executive Director, INFORMS

Elena Gerstmann, PhD, FASAE, CAE is the Executive Director of INFORMS. With over 12,000 members from around the globe, INFORMS is the leading international association for professionals in operations research and analytics. Our members “save lives, save money, and solve problems.”

Prior to INFORMS, Elena served as a Principal with Avenue M where she served as a consultant, facilitator, researcher, and leader on key client projects. Prior to Avenue M, Elena was on the senior executive team at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Before being recruited to ASME, she worked for IEEE for 16 years where her last position was on the executive leadership team.

Elena is a committed leader, thought trailblazer, and published author within the association industry. She has served on many volunteer boards/committees, including serving on the ASAE Board of Directors, chairing the ASAE Fellows Committee and ASAE Research Committee, and co-chairing the CESSE annual conference committee. She was selected as an ASAE Fellow, a designation bestowed on fewer than 1% of ASAE members, earned her Certified Association Executive (CAE), and is an ICF Associate Certified Coach. Elena received her doctorate degree from Rutgers University in Social Psychology.

Raj Manchanda, F. ASME, CTO, SAMPE

Raj Manchanda is the Chief Technology Officer at the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) responsible for setting the technology strategy for the North American operations of the global professional member society. Prior to joining SAMPE in 2021, Raj served as Training/Brand Management and Alliances Executive at HYTORC – an industrial bolting manufacturer that serves engineers in refineries, power plants, wind turbines, steel mills, mining, transportation and construction in more than 140 countries. HYTORC’s mission is to make industrial bolting safer and simpler. Prior to that Raj served on ASME staff for more than 20 years and held leadership positions in the Engineering, Training, Conformity Assessment, Emerging Technologies and Industry Events business units. After a stint at the American Management Association in which Raj managed the $4M Project Management and Process Management seminars he returned to ASME to launch the Nanotechnology Institute in 2001 with Dr. Arun Majumdar – a regarded materials scientist and engineer. Raj collaborated with Dr. Majumdar and the members of the Nanotechnology Institute Advisory Board to expand the scope of the Institute to include Fuel Cells, Microchannels and Biomedical Devices. Raj’s most recent role at ASME was Director, Business Development-Manufacturing and Robotics which included responsibility for the development of new content, in-person and digital conferences, expos, publications, training and standards in metal additive manufacturing, digital design and manufacturing, IoT, advanced materials, sensors and robotics in manufacturing engineering. Raj is a Fellow of ASME and a member of SAMPE and SME. He serves on the City College of New York’s Grove School of Engineering Advisory Board, MForesight’s Manufacturing Leadership Council, and a past member of the America Makes Governance Board. He holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from Boston University and a MBA from Baruch College’s Zicklin School of Business of The City University of New York.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Terese Loncar, CAE, Chief Operating Officer, Academy of Management

Terese Loncar is the Chief Operating Officer for the Academy of Management (AOM) overseeing meetings, publications, membership, and communications for the premier global association of 18,000 management and organization scholars. Every day at AOM is one of discovery and learning thanks to collaborating with incredible volunteers and management thinkers. Over a 20+ year career visioning, leading, and executing new products and services, Terese is most proud of her Operations staff for navigating new virtual pathways to member engagement and organizational sustainability.

Terese is a lifelong learner and holds an MBA from Fordham University Gabelli School of Business and recently earned her Certified Association Executive (CAE) from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) amidst the pandemic.
