NYPCMA ACE Awards 2018:  Committee Volunteer of the Year

 Committee Volunteer of the Year

Join NYPCMA as we celebrate the accomplishments of our members. Last year, John Sklencar, Business Events Manager at VisitBritain, won the
NYPCMA 2018 Committee Volunteer of the Year.

John, how long have you been a member of PCMA?
I have been a member for five years, and volunteering on the Program Committee for two years.

How did you feel when you won the award?
When my name was announced as the winner, I honestly had no idea that was coming. Even when they were describing why I had received the award, it sounded like it could have been any of us on the Programs Committee.  Our committee works really well together, and a lot of our brain storming sessions really come from group conversations.

What was the best part of volunteering last year?
I think Victoria has worked really hard to build a strong Programs Committee, and it has really showed with the quality of education that we have been able to provide this past year. I really wouldn’t have been able to be as great of a volunteer if it wasn’t for her leadership.
His chair, Victoria Lee, submitted the initial nomination to the Board. In her words, “John has been a dedicated member of NYPCMA’s Program Committee for two years. He’s not only consistently reliable with his dedication, cheer, and enthusiasm to support, but was crucial this past Education Day to introduce Supplier targeted content. It’s our goal to ensure education reaches more than just one membership base. He is so deserving of the Volunteer of the Year award and we’re fortunate to have John as a member.”
