Our First Chapter Champion – Lumi Hilchey

by Chris Achacoso, Melbourne Convention Bureau

Every quarter NYPCMA honors a Chapter Champion – a Chapter member who has demonstrated dedication, commitment and contributed to the overall awesomeness to NYPCMA.

Our inaugural Chapter Champion is Lumi Hilchey of Atout France, who serves as the NYPCMA Marketing Committee Chair. She recently joined the chapter leadership and in just six short months has become the go-to resource to keep all of our marketing needs in order.

Below is a fun interview with did with Lumi – CONGRATULATIONS on being our first Chapter Champion!

Getting to Know Lumi

Tell us a little about how you got into the industry

I got into the industry “by mistake.” I had recently moved to New York City and found a job listing for the agency that represented Dubai Tourism at the time. I had my first day and went home in love – I loved tourism and learning about new places each day. I was never going to get bored with this industry. This is 9 years later and I am still in love and highly affected by the travel bug.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

The hospitality industry always comes up with fun and surprising projects, so it’s hard to say. I love the adrenaline of being on the road and delivering a sales mission or a much-anticipated event, but I also love the quiet office days when I get to get (re)organized and plan upcoming projects and partnerships.

Where could we find you in your free time?

You will see me spending time with my family and baby boy, traveling, or running all over Manhattan and Jersey City as I am training for the 2017 New York City Marathon. I am also in the process of improving my French as I would like to narrow the language gap while promoting beautiful France here in the US.

What’s your favorite meal or recipe?

No time for cooking, but my favorite meal is anything with cheese!

You’re a new addition to the NYPCMA crayon box! What color would you be, and why?

I’d like to think I am the black crayon (I definitely choose this color a lot in my daily life) – simple, neutral.
